Sectional Sofa Assembly in Charlotte: Chaise Layout, Connectors & Room Access

A sectional can arrive as finished seats that need joining, or as a collection of frames, arms, covers and hardware. Before arranging assembly, confirm the exact configuration, whether every component has arrived and where the finished sofa will sit. Those details matter more than the number of boxes alone.

FixCraft VP offers furniture assembly in Charlotte at $95 per hour with a one-hour minimum, labor only. For an indoor sectional, we review the product and access before confirming the scope and appointment. Assembly time depends on the model, components and access.

Check the order against what was delivered

Send the retailer's product link and the configuration you actually ordered. A listing may show several arrangements under one product name, while your order includes a particular corner, chaise, arm or console. The general product photo may not show your set.

Compare the order confirmation with the labels on the delivered packages. Keep those labels and the packaging until the parts have been checked. You don't need to unpack or move a heavy box just to take a photo.

What you haveWhat to check before assemblyWhy it matters
Mostly assembled seat modulesCorrect seats, corner pieces, arms and any separate backsA missing end section can prevent the intended layout
Frames and separate componentsModel numbers, hardware packs and the instructions for each componentOne instruction booklet may not cover the whole order
A chaise configurationExact side or permitted reversible arrangementSimilar-looking versions can have different parts
Separate covers or legsCorrect sizes, quantities and attachment instructionsThese can be separate stages of the assembly

If a package is missing or a component is damaged, tell us before the visit. Assembly can't replace a missing manufacturer part. A product link and clear label photos help establish what can be completed and what needs to arrive first.

Decide the chaise side before joining the sections

Start with the manufacturer's configuration drawing, then mark the intended arrangement on a photo or simple sketch of your room. Label the doorway, TV wall and chaise position. That avoids relying on “left” or “right” when two people may be describing the sofa from opposite directions.

A chaise is reversible only when that model supports it. IKEA's FINNALA sofa with chaise, for example, permits the chaise on either side. Its product page also provides separate assembly documents for the loveseat frame, armrests, chaise frame and covers. Check the same details in your own model's documentation.

Check the finished dimensions against the room, including the chaise projection. Leave room to open doors and reach the paths you use every day. If your model has a recliner, pullout bed or storage compartment, use its instructions to check the space required to operate it. Decide the placement while the sections can still be positioned separately.

What the assembly may involve

The model determines the work. A ready-made sectional may need legs attached, backs or arms fitted, covers installed and modules joined using its factory connector system. Another arrives with most of those steps already complete. We review the instructions for the actual product to plan its assembly.

Connectors are worth checking in advance. Send photos of any visible brackets or loose hardware, especially if the sectional was previously assembled. Don't buy generic connectors to make an uncertain fit work. A missing or damaged factory connection needs to be identified before the modules can be joined as intended.

Our scope is assembly of the purchased furniture. Frame repairs, upholstery work, custom fabrication and recliner mechanism repair require a different service. Mention an existing defect when requesting the estimate so assembly isn't planned around a part that needs repair or replacement.

Plan the route and the working space

Check the dimensions of the largest box or module against the route to the room. The front door is only one opening: hallway turns, stair landings and elevator doors can be the limiting points. Send photos of a tight turn or narrow approach along with the manufacturer's package dimensions.

Tell us which floor the furniture is on and where it needs to end up. Carrying heavy boxes upstairs, moving furniture between floors and delivery assistance need separate confirmation. They aren't automatically included in an assembly visit. Arrange the removal of the old sofa separately if it occupies the work area.

Clear enough floor space to identify the parts, protect the working area and follow the instructions without balancing components against other furniture. Keep the route through the room open. For a Charlotte condo or apartment, include parking, entry instructions, elevator arrangements and building work-hour restrictions.

Use the example to show the kind of finished arrangement you want. Your own product details still determine the assembly steps, and your room determines the placement and access.

Cost, DIY and what to send

The published $95 hourly rate and one-hour minimum are the starting terms, not a fixed quote for a sectional. The model, component count, assembly stages, access and condition determine the estimate. Materials are separate; approved purchases are billed at actual receipt cost. Our furniture assembly cost and preparation guide explains the broader pricing factors.

A photo estimate is preliminary. We confirm the condition, agreed scope and price on site before work begins, and confirm changes before additional work. Sending an inquiry doesn't reserve an appointment; scope, availability and scheduling need to be confirmed.

DIY can be reasonable when the set is complete, the instructions are clear and you have the space and help required for the handling steps. Pause if parts don't match the diagram, a connector won't engage or the task requires handling you can't manage safely. Don't force a connection or modify the frame to compensate for a missing part.

For a useful estimate, send:

  1. The product link, exact configuration and any assembly documents you have.
  2. The number of items and boxes, label photos, and whether everything has arrived.
  3. Photos of the intended room, the proposed layout and any access constraints.
  4. Details of missing parts, damage or a sectional that has been assembled before.
  5. Your ZIP, floor, parking or elevator notes and requested date.
