Storage Bed Assembly in Charlotte: Drawers, Lift-Up Bases & Room Clearance
A storage bed can fit against the bedroom wall and still leave you unable to open a drawer. A nightstand may block one side, or the mattress you already own may be unsuitable for a lift-up base. Those details are easier to resolve before delivery, while you can still compare configurations.
FixCraft VP assembles customer-purchased, ready-made beds through our furniture assembly service in Charlotte. For a storage bed, send the exact product link and size along with room photos. The frame, storage design, mattress requirements, and space around the bed all affect the plan.
Which kind of storage bed are you buying?
“Storage bed” can describe several different arrangements. Loose boxes may roll under an otherwise conventional frame. Integrated drawers may use guides or runners built into the bed. A lift-up design raises the mattress base to reach the space beneath it.
| Storage design | Check before ordering | Assembly detail to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Rolling underbed boxes | Enough floor space to pull each box out, including beside nightstands | Whether boxes, bed frame, support beam, and slat base are included in the selected combination |
| Integrated drawers | Drawer travel, access from the intended side, and nearby doors or furniture | The exact drawer configuration and its required guides, supports, and hardware |
| Lift-up base | Access to the lifting point and room for the base to move as instructed | The complete lift kit and the model's mattress requirements |
Choose storage you can reach in the room's everyday layout. A drawer that opens only after moving a heavy nightstand may be a poor fit for items you use every morning. Occasional bedding storage is a different use from daily clothing storage.
If you are deciding which pieces to assemble yourself, our IKEA assembly guide covers several furniture types and what can make them more involved.
Match the order to the exact model and size
Keep the product link, article or model number, size, and matching assembly instructions together. A shared product name can cover different bed designs and combinations. Check what your particular order includes, including any separately packaged components.
For example, IKEA's MALM high bed frame with four storage boxes, combination 695.744.25 uses boxes on casters. That listing includes a SKORVA center support beam and a LÖNSET slatted base in the price, but says they are packaged separately. The mattress is sold separately. Those details apply to that combination; check your own order against its parts list.
Before the appointment, compare delivery labels and package counts with the order. Keep the instructions and small hardware bags available, and report visible damage or missing boxes. Photograph accessible labels without lifting heavy packages just to reach them. Missing supports or incorrect parts can prevent completion.
If your order also includes a wardrobe or shelving unit, use the Charlotte IKEA assembly planning guide to put the full item list together.
Leave room for the storage and the assembly
Measure the intended bed position with the surrounding furniture in place. Include the room door, closet doors, dresser drawers, nightstands, and the route around the foot of the bed. Use the manufacturer's dimensions and movement requirements for the chosen configuration.
For drawers or rolling boxes, check each side you intend to use. Carpet, furniture legs, and a wall close to the bed can affect access. Compare the space available with the box or drawer's travel, rather than assuming a narrow walking gap is enough.
A lift-up base needs access to its lifting point and clearance through its movement. Check the instructions before placing it beneath a sloped ceiling or near a projecting shelf. There is no single clearance number that covers every storage bed.
Assembly also needs working space around the parts. Have the intended room ready and discuss box placement before delivery. Carrying heavy boxes upstairs, moving an existing bed, or shifting other furniture needs separate confirmation. For a condo or apartment, include any elevator reservation or building work-hour requirements that affect access.
Check the mattress requirements for a lift-up bed
A mattress that matches the frame's nominal size still needs to meet the lift-up model's requirements. Follow the exact instructions for mattress size, weight, and any other stated limits. Check whether your planned mattress and accessories are permitted in that configuration.
IKEA's MALM storage bed, Full/Double, article 104.048.16, for example, includes its center support beam and slatted base and states a maximum mattress weight. Its assembly instructions identify requirements by bed size. Use the limit for the exact article and size you own; another MALM configuration may have different requirements.
Send the mattress model or label information with a lift-up bed request. If compatibility is unclear, resolve it with the manufacturer before assembly. Our scope is assembling the supplied ready-made system according to its instructions. Lift-mechanism repairs, substitutions, or modifications are outside that scope. Damaged or missing mechanism parts need manufacturer review.
What should be checked before the bed is used?
The completed assembly should be checked against the instructions: required supports and base components installed, connections secure, frame aligned, and storage moving without catching. Drawers should open and close in the planned room layout. A lift-up bed needs the manufacturer's prescribed function check in the required mattress and assembly configuration.
Keep the manual for care instructions and any later checks the manufacturer specifies. Report unexpected movement, binding, or damaged parts instead of forcing the storage open.
DIY can be reasonable when you can follow the exact manual, have the working space, and can provide any help it requires. If the frame is already partly assembled, send photos of its current condition and the remaining hardware before requesting help.
For a bedroom set, include dressers and nightstands in the item list. Their assembly and any required anchoring need their own review; our dresser assembly and anti-tip anchoring guide explains what to prepare.
Request a storage-bed assembly estimate
FixCraft VP's labor rate is $95 per hour with a one-hour minimum. The minimum does not establish the complete bed assembly price. Model complexity, storage components, item count, access, and any agreed moving or disassembly work affect the estimate. Approved materials we purchase are separate at actual receipt cost. See the furniture assembly cost guide for the pricing details.
